Unite and Conquer

Romans 16

We’ve come a long way!

The situation in the young Roman church

Why did Paul write this letter?

Paul focuses on leaders, dividers, and reminders

Verses 1-16: Leaders: The who’s who of Rome

Every strata economically, socially, and racially

Paul commends Phoebe, a pagan convert.

Priscilla and Aquilla

Epenetus, the “first fruit,” shows us that risk and trust conquer fear.

Andronicus and Junia

The household of Aristobulus

Verses 17-20: Dividers: Watch out for troublemakers!

Unite and conquer, don’t divide and conquer.

There is no room for grandstanding, power grabbing, or back stabbing.

The God of peace will soon crush Satan.

Verses 21-27:Reminders: Everyone in the pool!

God is able to make us strong. Do we believe that?

Where do we need more strength?

To be who God’s called me to be.

To open my life up to the community of faith.

To overcome prejudices that cause division.

To settle down into grace, so I can be free from thinking my salvation hangs on my perfect behavior.

To answer the calling in my life that will bring God glory and others to salvation.

To trust God with my first and best, knowing that He will bless my life with all I need.
